Accessible travel for passengers with special needs

We want your journey with us to be as pleasant as possible – even if you require assistance. That’s why we provide comprehensive services for passengers with reduced mobility, sensory impairments, or intellectual disabilities.

Book your flight & request assistance
Please inform us at least 48 hours before departure about the type of assistance you require – ideally when booking your flight or through our service center. This way, we can make all the necessary arrangements for you.

Depending on your condition, there may be restrictions regarding seat selection (e.g. no seats at the emergency exit). Some aisle seats are equipped with foldable armrests.

Traveling with a wheelchair or assistive devices – Guidelines

  • Assistance for PRM (Passengers with Reduced Mobility): Passengers with special needs may not occupy seats that block access to safety equipment or emergency exits.

  • Seat allocation on board: PRM passengers are seated in rows 2 to 5 to ensure a more comfortable and safer journey.

  • Maximum number of PRM: Up to 10 passengers with special needs may be accepted per flight, including a maximum of 5 wheelchair users.

  • Prohibited devices: Stretchers and O₂ oxygen cylinders are not permitted – exceptions apply for portable oxygen concentrators (POC) with charged or spare batteries.

  • Medical certificate: All PRM passengers must have a medical certificate confirming their fitness to fly.

  • Accompanying person: Certain categories of PRM may require a companion for the journey.

Traveling with medical conditions

  • Passengers with serious illnesses or requiring additional oxygen need prior approval.

  • Oxygen is permitted only on board GP Aviation – however, the airline does not provide additional oxygen.

  • The use of portable oxygen concentrators (POC) is allowed on GP Aviation, European Air Charter, and Bul Air, but only with a completed medical form (MEDIF) issued by a doctor.

Medical clearance for travel (MEDIF form)

Medical travel clearance (MEDIF form)
A passenger requires medical clearance for the flight if:

  • suffering from an acute illness or a recent injury

  • medical assistance is needed during the flight

  • a recent surgery has been performed

  • an additional seat is required for medical reasons

  • carrying a contagious disease

  • the baby is younger than 7 days

  • a plaster cast is being worn (in certain cases)

Requests for medical assistance must be submitted at least 3 working days before departure.

At the airport
Please arrive at the check-in counter at least 120 minutes before departure – even if you have already checked in online. Wheelchairs labeled “Delivery-at-Aircraft” may be used up to the gate. In some cases, a transfer to airport equipment may be required. Please note that step-free boarding and disembarkation is not possible at all airports.

On board
Our crew will gladly assist you with stowing your hand luggage, with communication, or – if necessary – with using the onboard wheelchair to reach the lavatory (available on long-haul flights and upon prior request).

For safety reasons, some passengers may require a companion:

  • if safety instructions cannot be understood

  • if assistance is needed to leave the aircraft

  • if support is required during meals or when using the lavatory

Passengers with visual or hearing impairments
Please inform us in advance about your need for assistance. We provide:

  • Escort service at the airport

  • Personal safety briefing

  • Individual information in case of flight changes

No medical certificate is required.

Traveling with intellectual disabilities

Please assess in advance whether a companion is required – for example, in cases of disorientation or limited resilience. In stressful situations, such as security checks or navigating the destination airport alone, additional assistance may be necessary.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Wearing the Sunflower symbol indicates non-visible disabilities. We are happy to support you as far as possible. Please note: The symbol does not entitle you to special services, but it serves as a signal to our teams to treat you with understanding and consideration.

Medical special regulations and exclusions from carriage

Passengers not permitted to fly include:

  • those traveling on stretchers or lying down (bahren)

  • those with contagious diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, or COVID-19

  • those with visible medical conditions that may cause significant discomfort or concern to other passengers

  • those with pregnancies beyond the 33rd week

  • those who have recently suffered a heart attack or undergone surgery

  • those with uncontrolled mental disorders – unless the individual is medically stabilized and accompanied

For any questions or uncertainties regarding your need for assistance, our service center will be happy to advise you.
