Family Travel Made Easy

Holidays with children are full of excitement – and with the right preparation, relaxation begins even before departure. To ensure a smooth start, we’ve compiled the most important information for your family trip.

Checklist for a smooth start

  • Check passports – children also need their own travel document.

  • Book seats early.

  • Check in online around 48 hours before departure.

  • Download entertainment for children in advance (e.g., audiobooks, games, coloring pages).

Strollers and buggies

Foldable strollers and buggies up to 10 kg can be taken to the gate at most airports. After landing, they are returned either at the aircraft stairs or inside the terminal. Please note that at some airports – for example, Stuttgart – strollers must be checked in at the special baggage counter before the flight.

If you have a connecting flight, please inform our ground staff whether you need the buggy during the stopover or only at your final destination. Compact models (“Pocket Buggies”) that are packed like hand luggage may be taken on board. Models over 10 kg must be checked in as baggage.

Age regulations for infants [INF]

  • Infants are children under two years old. They must travel on the parent’s lap with a special safety belt.

  • From the age of 2, children require their own seat and must pay a child ticket.

  • The maximum number of infants on board may not exceed 10% of the total number of aircraft seats.

  • Each adult may accompany only one infant.

If a child turns two years old during the trip, they must be booked as a child with their own seat. The accompanying person must be at least 18 years old – or 16 years old if a family member.

Age Regulations for Children [CHD]

  • Children between 2 and 11 years travel with their own seat at a reduced child fare.

  • Children under 5 years may only travel when accompanied by an adult.

  • Children aged 5 to 14 years may travel only when accompanied by an adult (over 18 years).

The accompanying person must present: the child’s birth certificate, the child’s passport, a copy of the parents’ passport, and a signed authorization from the parents. An authorized accompanying person may supervise up to 10 children.
